History
Early History
Melchor Barrios was born in Sinaloa, Mexico. He was relatively young when World War II started. Melchor Barrios was called into the army. Mexico was not involved in the war, however, Mexico was preparing for a potential war. Once the United States of America capitulated to Germania and the Empire of Japan. Mexico's government was careful at first, but trusted the nations more over time. Melchor Barrios came out of the army and joined the newly established Maldeira Cartel. He quickly grew in rank, growing to the rank of Capo for a while until he eventually became a Don. The Maldeira Cartel at this point practically owned all of Mexico. Melchor, now often referred to as Don Melchor, started conspiring with three other cartel members, being: firstly Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, better known as just Ernesto Fonseca or Don Neto, secondly Ismael Zambada, also known as El Mayo and thirdly Joaquin Guzman, better known as El Chapo.
Formation of the Sinaloa Cartel
After a while, these four people left the Maldeira Cartel behind and commenced their own cartel in Sinaloa. They therefore named their newly established criminal organization, the Sinaloa Cartel. The Sinaloa Cartel quickly grew as the Maldeira Cartel was slowly crumbling apart. The Eladio Cartel claimed independence, as well as the Potosino Cartel. After more time, other smaller gangs and criminal organizations started taking Maldeira territory as well. This caused Maldeira to flee Mexico and live with the Black Hand, a mafia organization.
The Growth of the Sinaloa Cartel
The Sinaloa bosses allied with the Los Mexicles gang, which then served as the main guard for the Sinaloa bosses. Additionally, Don Neto wanted to ally the Cartel de los Soles, a cartel growing in Colombia. He asked permission to Melchor, El Chapo and El Mayo to formally request the alliance, which they all agreed to. Cartel de los Soles accepted and became the Sinaloa front in Colombia. The Cartel de la Sierra, an ally of the Potosino Cartel, which is a rival of the Sinaloa Cartel, was also located in Colombia. Due to this, the Sinaloa Cartel could commence fighting Cartel de la Sierra as well, fighting the Potosino influence in both Mexico and Colombia.
Eladio's Cartel
Whilst the Sinaloa Cartel kept expanding, the Eladio Cartel started becoming unstable. This was caused by the Salamancas, who deemed the cartel theirs. Eladio and the others disagreed with this, causing a civil war in the cartel. Octavio Guzman as well as Tulio Guzman, family of the Sinaloa Boss Joaquin Guzman, were in danger because of this. Joaquin Guzman wanted to jump to his family member's aid.
The Sinaloa Coup and downfall of Eladio
However, Melchor had a different idea. He proposed it to Don Neto, and Don Neto accepted, under the conditions that El Chapo was not to be killed and El Mayo was not to be brought into it. Melchor managed to get high ranking dons and capos, as well as Don Neto and the whole Sinaloa Cartel army, consisting out of the Sinaloa Cartel soldiers, Los Mexicles soldiers and Cartel de los Soles soldiers, under his wing to commence the coup. At that moment, Joaquin Guzman ordered a group of Sinaloa soldiers to go to Eladio's Hacienda to provide aid for Eladio and his men. At this moment, Melchor apprehended Joaquin Guzman and told the soldiers that were on their way to Eladio to instead of aiding Eladio, they should attack Eladio. Don Neto told Melchor that they should retreat the soldiers, but Melchor told him that his plan to instead attack Eladio's men. Don Neto agreed to this. Melchor phoned the Salamancas, asking for a temporary alliance where both factions would attack Eladio's Cartel. The Salamancas agreed. Once the Sinaloa Cartel gunmen arrived, they started firing at Eladio's men. The site became a bloodbath. Rapidly, the Salamancas joined in on the fight. The Sinaloa Cartel gunmen killed most of the initial heavily armed guards, whilst the Salamancas killed most of the Dons and Capos. Eladio was eventually killed and the Salamanca Cartel was established.
Fate of the Family Guzman
Octavio and Tulio Guzman survived the attack and fled the area. Joaquin Guzman was ordered to turn himself in. The plan was that the Schutzstaffel would apprehend him. He would be arrested.
Continuing
Melchor Barrios did not want to be the main face of the Sinaloa Cartel. This is because the Sinaloa cartel is the largest cartel in the world. Melchor instead requested Ernesto Fonseca (Don Neto) to be the main figure of the cartel. Don Neto did not mind. Because of this, Melchor is not in as much danger, as less is known about him now than Don Neto.
The cartel continues it's business to this day, drug trafficking and making millions each month. Though Don Neto is the main face of the cartel, practically, Melchor Barrios is in charge.
