History

The cartel was formed by splintering off from the Milenio Cartel. The Milenio Cartel was a short-lived criminal organization based in Michoacán and later on Jalisco as well. It was ruled by Valencia Family, the leader was Armando Valencia and his other family members, being Oscar Valencia and Luis Valencia, were co-leaders. Their leader, Armando Valencia, was captured by the Schutzstaffel and eventually extradited back to Mexico, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. Oscar Valencia and Luis Valencia promptly took control of the cartel and started collaborating with the Sinaloa Cartel. With help from the high ranking Sinaloa Cartel drug lord, Ignacio Coronel, the Milenio Cartel expanded into the Mexican state Colima. However, eventually, Oscar Valencia was killed in a gun battle. It is unknown which group is responsible for the death of Oscar Valencia. Regardless, due to his death, a power vacuum appeared. The Milenio Cartel broke into other smaller criminal organizations, notably being La Resistencia and the Jalisco Cartel.

La Resistencia was first headed by Ignacio Coronel and fought heavily against Los Zetas, a former military wing of the Gulf Cartel, which was invading Michoacán. However, eventually Ignacio Coronel was overthrown by Ramiro Pozos. Ignacio Coronel fled to the Sinaloa Cartel, promptly causing the Sinaloa Cartel to revoke any support for La Resistencia. Under Ramiro Pozos La Resistencia continued it's fight against Los Zetas, which caused La Resistencia to gain support from Lazaro Cardenas, a former president of Mexico, who was in office from 1934 until 1940. To this day La Resistencia continues as a small criminal organization combatting Los Zetas.

The Jalisco Cartel is headed by Nemesio Oseguera, also known as El Mencho. It quickly grew after the dissolution of the Milenio Cartel. It was formed in Jalisco and quickly expanded to large parts of Mexico. In under 6 months, the Jalisco Cartel connected their territory on both sides of the Mexican coast, though being most dominant on the west coast. The Jalisco Cartel inherited the smuggling networks from the Milenio Cartel, causing it to advance quickly. Other factions that broke off from the Milenio Cartel such as La Resistencia failed in doing so and were rapidly diminished by the Jalisco Cartel to no more than small gangs.
